LIke Bug Juice on a Burger by Julie Sternberg...

How I Heard About It:  This is another book that was sitting on our librarian's desk that I "borrowed" this summer.  It is the companion book to Like Pickle Juice on a Cookie.

What It Is About:  The story follows Eleanor again like it did in the first book.  This time she is off to summer camp that continues the tradition of her mother and grandmother attending the same camp.  All Eleanor hears from them is how great the camp is.  She isn't so sure that camp is for her, but goes for the sake of her family.  Once at camp Eleanor has some interesting experiences that are both positive and negative.  There are times when she wants to pack it up and head for home, and there are times when she knows she needs to be strong and stick it out.  With the help of a camp friend, a camp counselor, and many others at the camp, Eleanor has a summer she will never forget.

What I Thought Of It:  As I mentioned with the first book in this series, I really enjoy the character of Eleanor.  I think she is a girl that many readers will be able to relate to.  These two books will definitely be added to my classroom collection.  They are great books to get kids into chapter books and longer novels.  Each page doesn't contain much text and also has illustrations that are fun to look at.  I'm looking forward to more books in this series and see where Eleanor goes next.

Who Should Read It:  This would be the perfect book for late-year second graders, third graders, and early fourth graders to read.  I believe it is the perfect book to transition readers from picture books and early chapter books to longer novels.  Readers will feel like they are reading from a "regular" chapter book, but the reading level will be appropriate for those struggling readers.
