Nothing More Dangerous by Allen Eskens

How I Heard About It:
*I have read other Allen Eskens' novels and have enjoyed them thoroughly.  I was thrilled to learn that he had a new novel out on the shelves.  I bought myself a hard cover copy and got to ready as the new year began.

What It Is About - FIVE Things You Need to Know:
1.  *High-school freshman Boady has grown up his entire life in a small town near the Ozarks hills.

2.  *Boady isn't having an easy time during the school day.  He is either being ignored or bullied by the "popular" guys.

3.  *He is curious and interested when African-American Lida Poe goes missing and everyone in town has a theory as to what happened.

4.  *Life gets really interesting when Thomas moves into the neighborhood.  Thomas' family is black, from Minneapolis, and causes quite a stir with their arrival.

5.  *Boady and Thomas form a special bond through friendship while working together to find out what happened to Lida as well as keeping their distance from the town bully.

What I Thought Of It - Five Observations/Reflections:
1.  *Reading one of Eskens' books is always such a joy.  This is partly because his settings are usually in Minnesota which makes it a fun read for this local boy.

2.  *The character of Boady was intense, raw, and realistic.

3.  *Eskens did a phenomenal job of putting the reader smack dab in the middle of Jessup, Missouri and all the "action" that took place there.

4.  *As much as the plot was driven by the protagonists of the story, there were several antagonists that kept me turning page after page after page.  Intense!

5.  *I'm a fan of stories that contain important life-lessons and the journey that Boady took was full of life-altering moments that brought both joy and sorrow to my heart/mind.

Who Should Read It:
*This is definitely a novel published for adults that will appeal to ALL readers.  If you have read any of Eskens' previous works, then you MUST read his most recent release.  You will not be disappointment.  Happy Reading!
