Treat Tuesday - Biscuits & Gravy Casserole

*If you have followed this blog, you know I love "egg bakes."

*This was a new one that I recently saw and we gave it a try at home.

*It is absolutely delicious.  A new favorite in our family.

*Give it a try while you read a great book!



Ingredients…

*1 pound sausage
*1 1/2 ounces pork gravy mix ( 1 package of Pioneer Brand Peppered Sausage Gravy Mix )
*1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
*6 eggs
*1/2 cup milk
*to taste salt
*to taste black pepper
*1 Can (8 oz) biscuits ( 1 can Pillsbury Grands Biscuits )

Directions...

-Preheat oven to 350 degree's.

-Take a 9x13 pan and spray it with Pam or whatever you like to use.

-Then take the Biscuits and it into 1" pieces and line bottom of pan. 

-Brown Sausage and scatter over biscuits. 

-Sprinkle with Cheddar Cheese.

-Whisk eggs and milk with a pinch of salt and pepper and pour it over the pan.

-Make Gravy mix per package directions and pour over.

-Bake in the oven for about 30-45 minutes.

Music Monday #11...

"Count on Me" by Bruno Mars

*It is another Monday which means it is time for Music Monday.

*I've used this song before with my students and it is always received quite well.

*For me this song is all about friendship and being able to count on your friends.

*This is definitely a major theme of my classroom - Friendship!

*We watch the video.  I usually show the second one to the class.  

*After watching the video, we talk about the message and/or theme.  Then the writing.

*The writers can write their reactions, thoughts, feelings, or reminders in their writer's notebooks.

*At the end of our writing time, we have a student or two share with the class what they wrote.

Nuts to You by Lynne Rae Perkins..

How I Heard About It:  While browsing for books last week I saw this book on the shelf and it sparked my curiosity.  I read a bit of the beginning and it hooked me right away so it went in the basket of books to be bought.  

What It Is About:  It is about squirrels of course.  A human meets a squirrel in the park and the squirrel tells her about his adventures in the forest.  There is a community of squirrels that live together.  One day one of the members of this community is out hunting for food and a hawk appears and grabs the squirrel.  A squirrel friend witnesses the whole thing.  While in flight with the hawk, the squirrel comes up with a way for the hawk to drop him.  He ends up in another squirrel community far from home.  He learns to live with this new group, while his old squirrel friends venture out on a quest to find their find.  While all of them are experiencing this new adventure, they learn that the "humans" are up to something and want to change their land.  It is up to them to let all the squirrels know what is going on and save them from the human destruction.

What I Thought Of It:  I love animal stories and this one did not disappoint.  The friendships and love that these squirrels had for each other was sweet and endearing.  The story moved along quickly with lots of action and suspense which I know will appeal to young readers.  I also enjoyed the elements of the different squirrel communities including accents and all.  This will definitely be a book that I share with my fourth graders.

Who Should Read It:  As I was reading this novel I keep thinking it would either make for a great book club selection or a perfect read aloud.  At this point, I'm still know exactly sure how I will use it with my students.  In my opinion it is the perfect book for readers in grades four through six.  A strong reader in third grade could also handle it.  If you (or a student) love animal stories, then this is the perfect novel.  Happy Reading!

Friend Friday #68...

Hi!  I’m Lucas and I’m read the book called Ghostopolis written by Doug TenNapel.

I think this book is cool because it has ghosts in the story and I thought that was cool.  

My favorite part in the story is the whole book because I enjoyed it all and thought the whole story was just great.  It is one of my favorite new books.  

The character that I liked best was Garth because he is the main character and so many great things happen to him.  I liked reading about his adventures.  

I think the author wrote this book because he likes ghost stories and wanted to entertain kids with a great story and even better pictures.  

I would recommend this book to my friends because I know they would like it and the kids in our class like the books by Doug TenNapel.  I can't wait to read his other books.  

Reading to me is really awesome because it can take you places.  In my mind I mean!  


*Lucas in a 4th grader in my class.
*He loves to read.
*He would read all day long if he could.
*I actually have to ask him to put his book away several times a day, which just kills me.  
*He really enjoys this series of graphic novels by Doug TenNapel.

Life Lesson #10...

"Be Happy"

*This is such a beautiful video.  

*When I first found it, I knew I wanted to share it with my students.

*Last year was the first time I used it with kids and the lesson went well so I'm using it again.

*We preview the video as a class and have a quick class discussion.

*My fourth graders then write their reactions, thoughts, feelings, reminders, or what they learned.

*We share at the end of the writing time.  

*It is my hope that all of these "life lessons" help my student become the best people they can be!
