How I Heard About It
*A fellow reader friend recommended this middle-grade novel.. I downloaded the story via Audible and have been listening during my commute to and from school for the last couple of weeks.
What It Is About - FIVE Things You Need to Know:
*All Juniper has known is life in the "wild" where she was born and raised.
*When her brother becomes ill, Juniper's family decides he needs care that an only be offered in the city.
*The travel from the woods to the home of Juniper's mother's brother where they will stay while her brother tries to get well at the local hospital.
*Juniper is lost in the new world of technology, fashion, and mean kids.
*She knows she wants to return to the forest, but first she must make sure her brother gets what he needs to get well.
What I Thought Of It - Five Observations/Reflections:
*The narration was well done. I would highly recommend the audible version.
*I thought the beginning of the story was a bit slow, but once the family made the move to the city, I was hooked.
*Reading about Juniper and her reactions to her new "world" was often amusing and/or hurtful because of how much she didn't know about living in "society".
*One of the strongest aspects of the story was the main character Juniper. She was unique, strong, and held on to her own beliefs.
*The plot was strong, the characters were real, and the emotion was highly visible throughout the pages.
Who Should Read It:
*I'm thinking this is the perfect story for readers in grades four, five, and six. Of course the book will also work with middle-school students. I think the novel would make for a strong class read aloud. Happy Reading!
