How I Came Across It... *While attending #NCTE24 in Boston, I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Ann Braden's upcoming middle-grade novel. The book will be released in May of 2025. What It's About - Five Things You Need to Know... *Addy and her mother live in a small remote town.
*They keep to themselves and are creating a life of their own.
*When a severe storm descends upon their area, they are stranded in their home because of the amount of water and broken bridges.
*Addy wants to attend a survival camp, where both of her parents attended as children themselves.
*She isn't sure she will be attend to get to the camp, but with the help of a new friend, she just may find a way to continue the legacy of her parents.
What I Thought of It - Five Observations/Reflections...
*I have loved all of Ann Braden's stories with each one being unique and special in their own way.
*Into the Rapids is well written, interesting characters, and a plot that moves foward at a perfect pace and kept me interested the entire time I was reading.
*The friendship between Addy and Caleb was heart-warming, engaging, and full of hope.
*The new novel will be perfect for young readers because the story is told in 165 pages and the chapters are short. Once of those books where you keep reading "one more chapter".
*So many great life-lessons are presented throughout the pages including friendship, honesty, and perseverance.
Who Should Read It...
*Just as with all of Ann's books, this one will be perfect for readers in grades three, four, and five. The story would be geared toward readers in middle-school. If you as an adult reader have read Braden's previous novels, you definitely want to put this upcoming story on your TBR list. Happy Reading!
