How I Came Across It...
*A coworker at my school brought me this book when we got back from winter break. He thought I would enjoy it. He only shared that it was historical fiction and written by Millie Bobby Brown. I learned there was also a ghost writer.
What It's About - Five Things You Need to Know... *Nelly is nineteen years old and lives in London during World War II.
*She meets Ray who is an American airman who is stationed in London.
*They form a friendship which blooms into a romance.
*As bombs are falling, some residents rush into "tube" for safety, but there is a crush of humans and many people die, including family members of Nelly.
*Nelly tries to move on with her life, while grieving a major loss. What I Thought of It - Five Observations/Reflections... *I'm not always the biggest fan of historical fiction, but have certainly have enjoyed some historical fiction novels. As I began this story, I wasn't so sure I would enjoy.
*The writing was average, the plot moved at a slow pace, and I found I wasn't all that engaged while reading.
*Had I been reading this book on my own, I probably would not have finished. I felt more compelled to finish because of the coworker handing me the book.
*There were several times when I did the old "skim and scan" to get further into the story.
*On a whole, I found the story to be average and not really for me. Who Should Read It... *I think readers who enjoy historical fiction, may enjoy the story. I also think readers who enjoy "tortured" love stories, may enjoy the story. It concerns me that there was a ghost writer so it is hard to know how much was MBB writing and how much was the ghost writer. Happy Reading!
Rating... 3 out of 5 stars
