My Own Lightning by Lauren Wolk

How I Heard About It:
*One of my favorite types of mail, is book mail.  I was thrilled to find an ARC of Lauren Wolk's upcoming middle-grade novel.  It is a sequel to her outstanding story Wolf Hollow.

What It Is About - FIVE Things You Need to Know:
*The reader is transported back to Wolf Hollow where Annabelle is recovering from what happened in the previous story.

*Summer has come and Annabelle is hoping to move forward and let go of the past events that haunted Wolf Hollow.

*During the first summer storm, she is caught out on her own and in dangerous proximity to a bolt of lightning.  A stranger brings her back to life, but disappears before she can thank the person.

*Because of the lightning strike, Annabelle realizes she has gained a special "power" that connects to animals thoughts and emotions.

*When a new family arrives and seems to have a secret, Annabelle, with the help of a past "enemy", set forth to find out what is going on while saving an animal or two in the process.

What I Thought Of It - Five Observations/Reflections:
*It is was wonderful to revisit Wolf Hollow and the characters I got to know in the first story.

*Annabelle is strong, independent, and always fights for the good of everyone.

*I enjoyed the reconnection between Annabelle and Andy.  Andy has quite the story of his own.

*Lauren's writing is beautiful and engages the reader from start to finish.

*While reading, I was completely immersed in the fictional town and felt like I was right along side them through their ups and downs.

Who Should Read It:
*The perfect middle-grade novel for all readers who have read Wolf Hollow.  In my opinion, the novel is perfect for readers in grades four through six, along with all middle-school readers.  Would make for a terrific class read aloud, especially if you have shared the first story.  Happy Reading!
