Holding On For Dear Life by Dusti Bowling

How I Came Across It... *I was thrilled when I received a complimentary audio copy of Dusti Bowling's newest work of fiction. I downloaded the middle-grade novel via "Libro.fm". The story gave me several days of an enjoyable commute to and from work. What It's About - Five Things You Need to Know... *Canyon is thirteen years old, lives with his younger sister and father, and gives his best shot at bull riding.

*Canyon's family is suffering after the death of his mother. They are lucky that Canyon's grandmother has stepped up and is helping the family.

*Canyon wants to impress his father by winning a bull riding contest. He is worried that is father is drinking too much and withdrawing from the family.

*Canyon isn't sure he meant for bull riding, but his true desire might be in the music competition "business".

*He has to decide which "event" he wants to participate in and what will bring him the most joy and satisfaction.

What I Thought of It - Five Observations/Reflections... *This was such an enjoyable audio book.

*I have enjoyed all of Dusti's novels and her newest book did NOT disappoint.

*Canyon was an incredible character and I so enjoyed getting to know him.

*His little sister was a hoot and the grandmother was the type of woman that all children deserve to have as a grandmother.

*I know young readers will enjoy the story of Canyon and his adventures with bull riding and music.

Who Should Read It... *This is the perfect story for readers in grades five and above. Being that Canyon is thirteen years old I think all middle-school readers would be the perfect audience for the novel. I see the book being used as a class read aloud and/or put in the individual hands of students. Happy Reading! Rating... 4 out of 5 stars
