*This is one of my favorite activities do do with my students.
*It has such an impact and emotional PUNCH.
*My students are divided into teams (Huskers and Jayhawks). There are four members on each of six teams.
*Throughout the year, the teams will work together to accomplish different tasks and/or experiments.
*During this task, the fourth graders got to work with some toothpaste; not quite knowing exactly why.
*Each member took a turn squeezing the toothpaste out of the tube onto a plate. After the team had as much toothpaste as they could onto the plate, they were challenged with putting it back into the tube using a toothpick.
*After giving them some time to attempt this task, we came back together and talked about how difficult this was.
*I then shared the picture book Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna. If you haven't shared this story with children, I highly recommend it.
*We had a really powerful discussion about the "Power of Our Words" and how once they are out in the WORLD, it is really hard to get or take them back.
