The River We Remember by William Kent Krueger

H
ow I Heard About It:
*I have always enjoyed the novels by William Kent Krueger.  I'm from Minnesota as is the author.  We picked this novel for our first BBC (Boy's Book Club) book club selection for the 2023/24 school year.  This is a book club with a group of male teachers I work with.

What It Is About - FIVE Things You Need to Know:

*The story is set in the year 1958 in a small Minnesota (fictional) town.

*The opening pages find a man dead in the local river.

*He isn't liked by many, and many wouldn't mind being the one who put him in the river.

*Brody Dern is the local sheriff who is at the head of the investigation.

*Many of the townspeople have their own secrets, including Dern, and they all seem to lead to the dead man in the river.

What I Thought Of It - Five Observations/Reflections:
*William Kent Krueger is quite the writer.  He grabs hold of the reader and doesn't let go until the very last page.

*I found the setting to be interesting, engaging, and familiar as I have lived in Minnesota my entire life.

*The cast of characters were unique, thoughtful, and full of surprises.

*The plot moved along at a perfect pace, and the final fourth of the book was quite the page-turner.

*This is one writer that never disappoints and each novel seems to get better and better.

Who Should Read It:
*The perfect novel for the fall reading season.  If you have read previous Krueger books, then you must add this title to your TBR list.  Happy Reading!
