How I Heard About It:
*I received this middle-grade novel in verse via my Twitter book group called #bookexpedition. I had read Lifeboat 12 by Susan Hood so was excited to see what this story was about.
What It Is About - FIVE Things You Need to Know:
*"She wouldn't be Zhanna. She'd used an alias. A for Anna. A for alive."
*Set during the Holocaust, the story focuses on when the Germans invade Ukraine.
*Anna is a young Jewish girl and must change her entire life.
*While on a "death march", Anna and her sister are able to escape the line and fight for their freedom and life.
*They use their musical talent in a quest for survival and a new life.
What I Thought Of It - Five Observations/Reflections:
What I Thought Of It - Five Observations/Reflections:
*It was somewhat strange to read about the German invasion of Ukraine when the Russians are doing that same thing in the spring of 2022.
*This is a true and powerful story of two young girls and what they did to survive.
*The words were beautifully put together in this novel in verse.
*I enjoyed reading the back matter that was provided that gave more information about this incredible true story of two young girls.
*I loved how a talent, like music, was able to help in the survival of humans.
Who Should Read It:
Who Should Read It:
*I think the book would be best suited for readers in fifth and sixth grade along with middle-school readers. If you know of nonfiction, especially WW11, readers, then this is the perfect book for them. The book will be released on March 22, 2022. Happy Reading!
