What It Is About - FIVE Things You Need to Know:
1. *Lyle and Peg are an elderly couple living in Wisconsin. They lost a child many years ago, and Lyle knows he is still grieving that lost.
2. *Lyle and Peg are thrilled when their daughter Shiloh and her son Isaac return home to live with them. They have been estranged from Shiloh for many years.
3. *Lyle and his grandson spend quite a bit of time together and Lyle couldn't be more thrilled.
4. *Both Lyle and Peg grow concerned when their daughter Shiloh becomes an active member of an "alternative" type church. She also becomes close to the "preacher" who is running the church.
5. *Both Shiloh and the preacher believe that little Isaac has special abilities and can cure those that need his special "hand". Isaac's grandparents want to do everything they can to save their grandson.
What I Thought Of It - FIVE Observations/Reflections:
1. *The story was thoughtful, graceful, and full of family emotions.
2. *I'm not a reader that generally gravitates toward slow-moving plots, but for some reason I don't seem to mind it when it comes to Nickolas Butler's writing.
3. *The characters in the story were real, caring, and heart-warming.
4. *The conflict between Shiloh and her parents was a central theme to the story and drew me in. I could feel the pain and the issues between them.
5. *I enjoyed not only the relationships that Lyle had with Peg, Shiloh, and Isaac, but the other supporting interactions he had; especially with his best friend Hoot.
Who Should Read It: You should definitely read this novel if you have read the other works of Nickolas Butler. The story will not disappoint. I would also recommend the story to other readers that enjoy a strong plot with a heavy focus on character-driven writing. Happy Reading!
