The Lion of Lark-Hayes Manor by Aubrey Hartman

How I Heard About It:
*After seeing @colbysharp rave about this upcoming middle-grade novel, I was pleased to find an E-Galley of it on NetGalley.  After being granted a copy, I dug in and enjoyed the story that Colby spoke so favorably of.

What It Is About - FIVE Things You Need to Know:

*Poppy isn't like most girls her age and she is alright with that.

*She has always had an interest and passion for magic.  Poppy has waited a long time for magic to find its way to her.

*When she moves to Oregon with her family, her time may finally have come.   Her parents have taken on a project to renovate the Lark-Hayes Manor.

*With no new friends, Poppy finds herself alone quite a bit.  During a late night walk, she comes across a water nymph and makes a deal with the nymph that will change her life forever.

*She has to exchange her collection of books, which she holds dearly to her heart; and in return the nymph will supply Poppy with her very own flying lion.

What I Thought Of It - Five Observations/Reflections:
*I'm not normally of fan of fantasy, but this story was incredible, powerful, and such fun to read.

*The character of Poppy was strong, unique, and stood on her own two feet to accomplish her goals.

*The story was half realistic fiction and half fantasy and the combination of both created a highly entertaining and enjoyable reading experience.

*I loved the story so much I'm thinking of using it as our final class read aloud of the year.

*The novel will be released on May 2nd. This is definitely a story for ALL readers.

Who Should Read It:
*I think this would be the perfect novel for readers in grades four and five.  As I mentioned, I'm thinking of using is as a class read aloud.  The story would work for a read aloud and/or to put in the hands of individual readers.  Middle-School students in grades six through eight would also be ideal for the story.  Happy Reading!
