How I Heard About It:
*I was thrilled when I was able to download an E-Galley of Jenn Bishop's new novel. I have read her previous works and was excited to see what she came up with this time around.
What It Is About - FIVE Things You Need to Know:
*When Emma starts sixth grade she decides she wants to fit in more than she has in the past.
*This means she may have to leave her nerdy book reading friend Becca behind.
*Emma's older brother, Austin, encounters a football accident, and isn't quite able to get his "act" together.
*When life at home gets too crazy and difficult, Emma is sent out west to spend the summer with some family friends.
*At first, she feels abandoned, but the more time she is away from her family and the issues at home, the more she begins to find her true self.
What I Thought Of It - Five Observations/Reflections:
*Loved it!
*Jenn Bishop has a talent for writing important issue stories while keeping the entertainment level at the forefront.
*I enjoyed the fact that she didn't sugar coat the family crisis and presented it in an authentic and powerful way.
*Emma was a strong, complex, and multi-dimensional character. She really made the story pop off the page.
*The new friendship between Emma and Tyler was touching, special, and one they each needed.
Who Should Read It:
*The novel would be great for readers in grades four through six. It could be used for a class read aloud and/or given to individual readers. The story should also be highlighted in the middle-school seating. Happy Reading!
